2026 Bennett Memorial Scholarship Recipients

We are proud to announce the recipients of this year’s Bennett Memorial Scholarship. Each year, this scholarship honors the legacy of excellence, perseverance, and service represented by Ricky Bennett Sr, a native of Hallsboro, NC, and supports outstanding students from Columbus County in their pursuit of higher education.

This year, we are excited to recognize two outstanding awardees whose accomplishments and aspirations reflect the very best of their community:

Devon Jenrette (East Columbus HS) has distinguished himself through academic excellence and dedicated service, maintaining a 3.6 GPA while actively participating in numerous school, church, and community activities.

A devoted member of his church, Devon serves as a Choir Member, Usher, and Media Team Producer, faithfully using his talents to support ministry efforts. He is also actively involved in community volunteer work and has been a dedicated participant in Dixie Youth Baseball for 13 years, demonstrating perseverance, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Among his many accomplishments, Devon serves as President of the Senior Fundraising Committee and was honored by his peers as the 2026 Prom King.

This fall, Devon will attend North Carolina A&T State University, where he plans to major in Information Technology. His passion for technology, leadership, and service positions him for a bright and successful future.

Jaylen Brown (East Columbus HS) has demonstrated determination, responsibility, and a strong work ethic throughout his high school career, maintaining a 3.4 GPA while balancing academics, employment, and community service.

Jaylen faithfully serves at his local church and volunteers with the local Little League baseball program, investing his time in mentoring and supporting young athletes in his community. For the past two years, he has worked at McDonald’s while successfully managing the demands of school, demonstrating maturity, commitment, and perseverance.

This fall, Jaylen will attend North Carolina A&T State University, where he plans to major in Business with a focus on Entrepreneurship. His ambition, work ethic, and passion for business reflect his desire to create opportunities and make a positive impact in the future.
