SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND:
Mr. Ricky Allen Bennett, Sr., a 1971 graduate of Hallsboro High School, transitioned on Feb. 25, 2023. Ricky led a life of purpose and embodied a joy of helping others. He leaves behind a treasured legacy of giving, kindness, and service. Ricky set goals that advanced character and excellence, built on a foundation of humility. Ricky was born and raised in “The Black Quarters” of Hallsboro, NC. Having raised three extraordinary sons making indelible strides in the corporate world, he stayed connected to life’s greater purpose of making it better for others, especially children. The Bennett family is paying it forward through this annual memorial scholarship for young black men from Hallsboro, NC to have the opportunity to achieve their greater purpose.
PURPOSE OF SCHOLARSHIP:
The scholarship will be awarded to an African American high school male from Hallsboro, NC (or born in Hallsboro, NC or surrounding area) for the sole purpose of assisting the individual in the pursuit of continuing education in the amount of $2500. Accordingly, the scholarship awarded will only be paid to the selected applicant who has been accepted into an accredited university, college, junior college, community college or technical/trade institute, as of August 1, 2025. If the selected applicant has not been accepted by this date, the scholarship will be forfeited and awarded to another recipient.
HOW SCHOLARSHIPS ARE PAID:
Scholarship funds will be made payable to the selected applicant’s school registrar’s office. Payments will be made after receipt of documentation indicating that the applicant has been accepted, within time constraints, as a student in any accredited university, college, junior college, community college or technical/trade institute.
