2024 Bennett Memorial Scholarship Recipient

We are delighted to announce the recipient of the second annual Ricky Allen Bennett, Sr. Memorial Scholarship. After careful consideration and review of numerous exceptional applications, we are pleased to award Matthew (“Matt”) Isaiah George with this $2500 scholarship.

A graduate of East Columbus High School, Matt has demonstrated outstanding academic achievements, remarkable leadership skills, and a strong commitment to his community. His strong work ethic, scholastic achievements, and dedication to personal growth are admirable. Graduating with a 3.1 GPA, it’s a privilege to support Matt as he begins both his athletic and scholastic journey at Fayetteville State University. With this award, he will pursue his dream of working in Sports Management. 

Like Ricky Bennett, Sr., Matt was a standout athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and track & field. He was a member of the A-B Honor Roll and Principals list, a 3-time Iron Gator, Wranglers Football Program, All Conference 4-time Varsity football captain, and Gentlemen of Distinction.  Matt has shown exceptional leadership and dedication evidenced by being bestowed the prestigious Heart of Champion Award by the NC High School Athletic Association.

Equally impressive is Matt’s work ethic. He began as a cook in 8^th grade at a local grill working an average of 20 hours per week during high school, and recently began working at Walmart. His well roundedness, respectful and gracious demeanor was significant.
